"The more side roads you stop to explore, the less likely that life will pass you by." ~Robert Brault

My first impression of Costa Ricans began on the plane when I was seated next to the cutest Costa Rican couple there ever was. Within five minutes Betty had given me her home phone number. Within twenty minutes she had told me all about her beautiful grandchildren and invited me to their home. As the plane took off, Betty crossed herself and we continued our half-English-half-Spanish conversation.
My impression of Costa Rican’s only got better upon my actual arrival to the Country. Victor was waiting with a sign with my name on it to drive me to my host grandma’s house. She is about 4’8” and just as sweet as Betty. I have my own little suite in the house (see pictures below) and besides the fact that my shower this morning was ice cold, it is great. After a fresh mango for breakfast, Virginia walked me to my first day of school where I had a placement interview and orientation. This afternoon I walked down to Central San Jose. Admittedly, it is not the prettiest place but I still love walking through the markets and seeing all the bizarre unidentifiable food, which I will soon be trying!
